Day Treatment Services must include interventions and techniques that respond to each individual consumer/student and family’s unique strengths and needs.  This is best achieved by developing a therapeutic milieu, utilizing Systems of Care/Person Centered Planning practices, working collaboratively with the IEP Team and incorporating such beliefs that consumers/students deserve to be supported in the least restrictive environment/home school setting, and utilizing cultural proficiency and sensitivity to differences among all (i.e., speaks appropriate language, does not judge family culture, etc).

Solution Station is a therapeutic program and certified public school operated as a joint venture between Support, Inc. and Cleveland County Schools. The program is an intensive, therapeutic service provided at the primary care level for Seriously Emotionally Disturbed children.  These youngsters are identified and designated SED, often times through involvement with the mental health service delivery system.  In addition students in Day Treatment have been identified as Exceptional by the school system’s Department for Exceptional Children and therefore qualify for services designed specifically to meet their special needs.

Solution Station consumers are those children within the seriously emotionally and/or behaviorally handicapped population.  These youngsters more often than not have not met their full potential in the social and educational environments at the traditional level of care; or they have exhausted a variety of services both clinically and academically.  The Day Treatment model allows a shift in the service delivery paradigm; the focus moves from one of problem identification and deficits to that of consumer and family strengths and competence.  This is a group of young people who may not require, but are viewed as at substantial risk for treatment programs.  Therefore children referred to Solution Station must be eligible for Level II services.  Participating children, and their families are offered an integrated, comprehensive program that combines mental health and educational services which addressed the unique needs and potential of each consumer.  The service is guided by Individualized Education Plans, Individualized Service Plan and is supported at the foundation by the System of Care Practices and Principles.

This agency has had opportunities to work with Pathway’s LME, community partners (i.e. School Systems, Department of Social Services, and Department of Juvenile Justice) and has taken an active role in the treatment planning process.  These experiences with other agencies constantly reinforce that working together as a community for our consumer and their family helps make reaching the consumer’s goals obtainable and achievable.
